I weaved a Cherokee double wall basket with commercial reed and dye. This basket won the People's Choice award at the Trail of Tears Art Show, April 2015. It was an honor to be voted and there were many beautiful art pieces well represented.
After reconnecting with her pre-school teacher, Cherokee Nation citizen Talisha Lewallen learned how to make Cherokee double-wall baskets from basket weaver Regina Thompson.

This basket is titled "Prayer Watchers" and was accepted into the Trail of Tears Art Show. It is a blessing to receive a YES on my artwork. I never ever take it for granted. This precious basket is entered into the minature category. It stands 3 1/2 inches tall and woven with size 0 reed.
A Mother's Anguish
This basket was accepted into the Trail of Tears Art Show, 45th year! This one is titled "A Mother's Anguish" I wished I had named it "The Sounds of Silence".
"A Mother's Anguish". This basket represents the babies that were murdered on the Trail of Tears. If a baby could not be held or quieted, the government man would snatch the baby from the parent's arm and smash its head against a tree. It wretches my heart to read these accounts.
